Ars Technica Article
Citizendium is the spotlight article on Ars Technica.
Story: http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/citizendium.ars
Discussion: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/174096756/m/592004363831?r=592004363831
I have revived my old Technica account and contributing actively to discussion there.

Jason, why do you waste your time in that discussion? Clearly you’re dealing with a bunch of jackals there who simply hate the idea of the project. There will be only more and more such people as we become more and more successful. No one cared much last September, so we only had a few negative reactions, all of them saying that it can’t work; but now that we’ve got over 1,000 articles, many hundreds of participants, consistently well over 500 edits per day (and pushing toward 1000 regularly), with scores of regular contributors…well, some people are evidently starting to feel threatened by us.

His quiet request to the non-Jackals there for software writing assistance was probably a good idea.
BTW, I thought the article was well done.

Larry, the Ars Technica crowd is overwhelmingly anti-Wikipedia, and the majority consider the website to be a complete joke. Yet, when Nate writes an exceedingly positive review of your alternative, they reacted just as negatively.
I think Citizendium needs to seriously consider why that might be.

Honestly, they’re a lot less jackal-ish than the Digg crowd. You should have seen half their discussion on us. It basically consisted of (I swear I’m not kidding) “Larry is ugly”. I swear Digg is like 12 year olds who don’t know how to type right.
Ars and Slashdot can both be extremely critical of things (although Slashdot is pro-Wikipedia), but they often have at least semi-coherent reasons or offer at least some form of criticism that’s semi-helpful.

“I think Citizendium needs to seriously consider why that might be.”
You’re suggesting, David, that we have never seriously considered why people attack us–which is, of course, ludicrous as usual.

Well, perhaps against my own better judgment I have gone to the website to clarify my “jackal” remark–and to illustrate the fairly low quality of even a small sampling of the commentary on the Ars Technica article. Anyway, I’m done with this!

If you had considered it, you probably wouldn’t be in the habit of directly insulting the people you’re attempting to recruit.

No, David, you’re mistaken. I’m not attempting to recruit anyone who doesn’t take the time to learn the facts about what they spout off about, before spouting off.
