Ameinu, Hebrew for "Our People", is a U.S. national, multi-generational community of progressive American Jews. In 2003, it was formed from the Labor Zionist Alliance (LZA); it sees its mission as encouraging progressivism in Israel While politically progressive, it is part of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, sometimes representative of more hard-line support of the State of Israel. The Labor Party (Israel) is not part of the coalition government of the State of Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, although it has led other governments.
The group, which traces its history back for a century of Zionist and American Jewish labor movements, supports a two-state solution. It cooperates with the Union of Progressive Zionists campus organization and has a youth movement, Habonim Dror.
Ameinu works with three social justice organizations in Israel:
- Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace and Economic Development (NISPED), focused on civil society
- BINA Center for Jewish Identity and Hebrew Culture. Founded in 1996, BINA embraces the idea of tikun olam, the Jewish tradition of repairing the world. BINA means "wisdom" in Hebrew. It is also an acronym for the Hebrew "A Home for the Creation of the Nation's Soul"
- YEDID ("friend" in Hebrew) was established in 1997 to promote social justice in Israel by operating Citizen Rights Centers in poor communities around the country
