Sentence (linguistics) [r]: Largest unit of grammatical structure in language, independent of and subordinating any other syntactic unit, and consisting of several types (e.g. declaratives, i.e. statements) and patterns (e.g. compound sentences, i.e. comprising two or more clauses).
